ABOUT THE PTE EXAM:

The following tests are available from Pearson: PTE Academic is a computer-based academic English language test aimed at non-native English speakers wanting to study abroad. It tests Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking.It is an international computer-based English Competency test.

HOUR 1: INTRODUCTION

INTRODUCTION TO TOEFL AND EACH OTHER :

HOUR 2: SPEAKING

INTRODUCTION TO SPEAKING : The Speaking & Writing of the PTE section is approximately 77–93 minutes with seven different question types. The Speaking & Writing section is the longest section of the PTE test. The candidate will be tested on their speaking and writing skills.

HOUR 3: READING:

The PTE syllabus of the Reading Section is 32–40 minutes long in the PTE test and it contains five different question types.

HOUR 4: LISTENING:

INTRODUCTION TO LISTENING :Students are given the details of the following:
1 PTE listening structure.
2. Why its important to understand every word while listening to the recording.
3. Grading in listening
4. Types of question asked in the test.

HOUR 5: WRITING

The PTE Academic Speaking and Writing sections are done together; time 77 – 93 minutes. Summarize text.
The Writing is the second section of the Speaking module. In other words, it does not have any separate section or time. Once you are done with the Speaking module, clicking on the next button will ask you to take the Writing test.The writing test assesses your writing skills in terms of how good you are in grammar, formatting sentences, and sticking to the topic given. You will be judged on the quality of your writing. You need to write a summary of the text in one sentence. You have 10 minutes to write your summary. Make sure to include the main points of the reading passage in a full, single sentence of no more than 75 words.

Essay
It tests your ability to understand and remember a sentence, and then repeat the sentence exactly as you hear it using correct pronunciation. It assesses both your speaking and listening skills. For Reading aloud, students are taught to be careful with phrasing and intonations as they convey overall meaning. During the PTE preparation time, check for any difficult words and rehearse them to maintain a normal speed.

HOUR 7: READING

Understand the main message of the passage and focus on keywords to find the correct answer. Focus on the frequency words (for example – always, sometimes, never many, all, often, never, only) eliminate those options and maybe you will find the correct answer. Since there is no negative marking for this question, answer the question and don’t leave it blank. Make use of the rule of elimination. Narrow down your options as much as possible.

HOUR 8: LISTENING

TE Listening Test: Summarize spoken text
Restrict your answer to 50-70 words.
You can start with saying something “The speaker said” Use the provided notepad to write down the keywords.
Close your eyes for better attention.
Focus on the theme and most repeated words.

HOUR 9: WRITING

You need to write a summary of the text in one sentence. You have 10 minutes to write your summary. Make sure to include the main points of the reading passage in a full, single sentence of no more than 75 words.

HOUR 10: SPEAKING

In Describe image, usage of words and phrases such as – increase, decrease, rise, fall, remain stable/steady, are didcussed. Don’t try to describe everything in detail, as you will not be having that much time. So, look for the pair of extreme values such as – the highest and lowest, the largest and smallest and so on.

HOUR 11: READING

Read the question before you read the text to understand what kind of information to look for. 60% of the answers can be found in the first or last two lines of the passage. Remember the information in the passage as the questions will not be asked in chronological order and you will find the answer anywhere in the passage.

HOUR 12: LISTENING

PTE Listening Test: Multiple-choice, choose multiple answers

Don’t make blind guesses as this question has negative marking
It is recommended you read questions before the audio starts.
Stay focused till the end as the answers could be in the end.
HOUR 13: WRITING
Summarize written text—–You need to summarize the passage in one sentence. text up to 300 words.(reading and writing)10 minutes Write essay———You need to write an essay on a given topic between 200 and 300 words.

HOUR 14: SPEAKING

Your ability to understand and remember a sentence, and then repeat the sentence exactly as you hear it using correct pronunciation. It assesses both your speaking and listening skills. In the Re-tell lecture section students trained to understand what they hear, as they have to retell the lecture including the key points. With no repetition the exact information and to anticipate what can be the topic.
1) Do not try to take notes ‘word-for-word’ as you may miss any vital information if you write too much.
2) Try to understand what you hear, as you have to retell the lecture including the key points. Try not to repeat the exact information.

HOUR 16: LISTENING

PTE Listening Test: Fill in the blanks Use the provided notepad to take notes otherwise, you will miss the next word. Carefully listen and determine whether the word was singular or plural, with an article or not etc.
PTE Listening Test: Highlight correct summary Understand the theme and the message conveyed by the speaker. Use the elimination method to narrow the options. 

HOUR 17: WRITING

What is it? You need to write a summary of the given paragraphs on a particular topic. You have 10 minutes to finish the summary.
Alert: You will have to write the summary in only ONE sentence. This means, only one full stop (a period) is allowed. Nevertheless, you may use commas and semicolons for more than once. 

HOUR 18: SPEAKING

For Answer Shot Questions, students taught not to speak too quickly, as there will be plenty of time. Remember, if you do not speak for 3 seconds, and to correct themselves if they made a mistake as the microphone will close automatically.Not try to speak before the microphone opens, as your answer will not be recorded. 

HOUR 19: READING

Multiple-choice, choose single answer After reading the text, answer a multiple-choice question on the tone or content of the text by selecting one response. (Reading)text up to 110 words. 

HOUR 20: LISTENING

PTE Listening Test: Highlight incorrect words Review your answers before submitting, in case you have missed something. Double-clicking a word will unselect the word. So click only once. This part has negative marking, so be careful. 

HOUR 21: WRITING

You’ll have the ‘word count’ at the bottom of the text box. Make sure that you don’t write under 200 words. Nor should you exceed 300 words or else it’ll attract penalty and you’ll score less. Try to remain neutral in writing on any topic. You should avoid repeating the words or sentences. You also have a choice to cut, copy, or paste the text. This is useful when you don’t want to take any chance to spell a difficult word in your content. Say: an essay where you need to type the word ‘homeostasis’ more than once. 

HOUR 22: SPEAKING

Speak without any breaks and hesitation. Breaks longer than 3 seconds will stop the response recording and all your efforts will go in vain.Words/sentence pronunciation should be clear. One must stick to the time limit as well. The whole answer must be recorded before the clock runs out of time. 

HOUR 23: READING

Re-order paragraphs: Several text boxes appear on the screen in random order. Put the text boxes in the correct order. (Reading):text up to 150 words. 

HOUR 24: LISTENING

PTE Listening Tips and Tricks: For the PTE listening section of the PTE Academic Exam, candidates would be required to answer questions based on audio and video clips. Candidates should note that they would get to listen to each audio or video clip only once. The full form of PTE-A is the Pearson Test of English – Academic and is one of the most sought after English language tests for candidates wanting to study abroad.

HOUR 25: WRITING

Keep it simple and take the time to plan your points.A lot of people run out of time writing their PTE essay because they change their minds about their arguments halfway through and must begin again.The Pearson test assessors are not looking for long, impressive sentences; instead they are looking for sentences that are clear and logical. 

HOUR 26: SPEAKING

Student trained to speak with Purpose, logic, with a natural flow, to speak using complex vocabulary and appropriate phrases.. 

HOUR 27: READING

Reading: Fill in the blanks.A text appears on the screen with several gaps. Drag words from the box below to fill the gaps. (Reading):text up to 80 words. 

HOUR 28: LISTENING

PTE Listening Test: Highlight incorrect words Review your answers before submitting, in case you have missed something. Double-clicking a word will unselect the word. So click only once. This part has negative marking, so be careful. 

HOUR 29: WRITING

PTE is a computer based test and in a hurry to write the summary in 10 minutes, it is possible to type spellings incorrectly even if you have practised. Double check the spellings having letter ‘i’ and ‘e’ together, for instance, “receive” & “believe”, spellings ending with ‘-ance’ or ‘-ence’, for instance, “acceptance” & “coincidence” and ‘-able’ or ‘-ible’, for instance, “knowledgeable” & “responsible”. Secondly, try not to write same words as in the text and instead use synonyms. 

HOUR 30: SPEAKING

Focus is on oral fluency by speaking with a nice flow at a natural pace, make sure you are not speaking too fast or too slow.Avoid pauses and unnatural hesitation, making sure you are not dragging words and saying ‘uh’ or ‘um’ too many times. It is important to not pause mid-sentence if you have made mistakes, maintain flow and continue to speak naturally.Record yourself regularly and review your oral fluency yourself and try to improve. – this will help you assess your regular speaking patterns. 

Hour 31: READING

A text appears on the screen with several gaps. Fill in each gap from a drop-down list of response options. (Reading and Writing):text up to 300 words. 

HOUR 32: Test (Listening )

HOUR 35: Test (Reading )

HOUR 36: LISTENING

Write from dictation It is better if you type your answer directly on the computer instead of taking notes on the notepad first as it will save time. Check the spellings, singular and plural forms, punctuation etc. Listening Section tips Watch movies and TV shows first with subtitles and then without subtitles. Listening to new content will increase your vocabulary which will improve your understanding of spoken English while listening. 

HOUR 37: WRITING

Your writing should use a wide range of language and express thoughts without ambiguity or restriction. If you tick all of the boxes, then you will receive a good score under general linguistic range.Summarize the Written Text. and write in clear and concise paragraphs.Ensure that you write in academic English language and do not use bullet points. 

HOUR 38:SPEAKING

Make sure you are not rolling or mumbling words, the computer might not pick words that you are joining together unconsciously or even speak together. It is important to enunciate and speak clearly into the microphone. 

HOUR 39: Revision & Test

Students can come up with any doubt or problem they are facing while solving any kind of question. (Of course they can ask in any regular class but this day is explicitly set for that task) There will be speaking practice through games and activities.

HOUR 40: Discussion and final Do’s and Dont’sfor the PTE exam.

4. Watch movies and TV shows first with subtitles and then without subtitles.
